Risk analysis in tunneling

Research scope

The main contributions to risk analysis in tunneling are related to the development and applications of the Decision Aids for Tunneling (DAT): a computer-based tool, which considers geologic and construction uncertainties to produce distributions of cost, time, and resources, which can in turn be used for risk analysis. In recent developments of DAT, major risks that affect tunnels, called risk events, have been specifically included; related mechanics research addresses tunnel-specific issues such as roof falls.
